Building a REAL Robot: Post #3: Well there's good news and there's bad news...

... the good news is that there's some really interesting convergent evolution going on with the synthetic muscle.

The muscle membrane can get damaged, and fairly easily pierced (like flesh), but surprisingly, just like flesh, the synthetic muscle will self-heal. As long as the bionic muscle is rested, and the puncture not too big the ferrofluid effectively coagulates, and hardens to a hard, yet slightly flexible scar. Very cool. The highly volatile fluid which the ferrous nanoparticles are suspended in, evaporates quickly and leaves a venire over the smooth rust the the exposed nanoparticles form. Its oddly familiar!

The bad news is...  the fluid is highly volatile! So the bloody stuff is valorously escaping through the container membrane.  :(Â
